Fasting from Expectations: Luke 19:28-40

Palm Sunday 28  After he had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. 29  When he had come near Bethphage and Bethany, at the place called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of the disciples,  30  saying, “Go into the village ahead of you, and as you enter it you will find tied there a colt that has never been ridden. Untie it and bring it here.  31  If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ just say this, ‘The Lord needs it.’”  32  So those who were sent departed and found it as he had told them.  33  As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?”  34  They said, “The Lord needs it.”  35  Then they brought it to Jesus; and after throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it.  36  As he rode along, people kept spreading their cloaks on the road.  37  As he was now approaching the path down from the Mount of Olives, the whole mul...

Strangely Familiar: Accountability and Repentance (2 Samuel 12:1-13)

Ordinary Time So the Lord sent Nathan to David. When Nathan arrived he said, “There were two men in the same city, one rich, one poor.  2  The rich man had a lot of sheep and cattle,  3  but the poor man had nothing—just one small ewe lamb that he had bought. He raised that lamb, and it grew up with him and his children. It would eat from his food and drink from his cup—even sleep in his arms! It was like a daughter to him. 4  “Now a traveler came to visit the rich man, but he wasn’t willing to take anything from his own flock or herd to prepare for the guest who had arrived. Instead, he took the poor man’s ewe lamb and prepared it for the visitor.” 5  David got very angry at the man, and he said to Nathan, “As surely as the Lord lives, the one who did this is demonic!  6  He must restore the ewe lamb seven times over because he did this and because he had no compassion.” 7  “You are that man!” Nathan tol...

Provide: 1 John 5:1-6

Sixth Sunday of Easter Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him.  2  By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments.  3  For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.  4  For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.  5  Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? 6  This is he who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth . (ESV)               I finally broke down and did my taxes th...

"Ordinary Glory": Matthew 25:31-46

Christ the King Sunday 31  “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne.  32  Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.  33  And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left.  34  Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.  35  For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,  36  I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’  37  Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or ...
